#DailySketch Sonic the Hedgehog.
Think about it. Sonic The Hedgehog was a drug addict. A speed freak running around, putting himself in danger to collect the rings. The rings, man! Chasing THE RINGS! Later he took on Tails. His own addict apprentice. Like Bubs and Johnny from the Wire. Teaching him the tricks to getting the rings. To beating the bosses how control the rings.

Tank Girl

Tank Girl

It occurred to me that while I post a lot of sketches where I’m doing studies on ideas and thoughts, I don’t often post my sketchbook sketches. You know, the pages where i’m not concerned with you seeing it, only me finding a character or a place. I’m on the hunt. Sometimes i’ll spend 10 pages drawing almost the exact same thing until one little thing changes and i have it. Or until I’ve exhausted my go to shapes and start looking outside of my comfort lines.
This is a page of me searching for a different version of a character for a story i’ve been toying with forever. I usually do the short, noodley little girl but the story could easily have someone like this as well. So i’m spending some time searching.
I’ll try to get in the habit of posting this at least once a week. I think it’s nice to see that in world wear we have started calling full painted, polished concept art “SKETCHES” that there are still pages filled with complete junk.

#DailySketch Lumpy Space Princess.
I love Adventure Time so much. Besides creating something new, a lot of people want to do epic runs on things like Batman, Spider-man, X-Men, etc. Not me. I want to do 100 issue runs on things like Harry Potter, Labyrinth, and Adventure Time. I would love to sit in a  room and plan out the next 5 years of the epic comic saga of Finn and Jake. I’m about to cry just thinking about hit.

Old School.

In 2000 I met Joe Currie. A young man who loved comics and self published a small line of books. I showed him “work” at the comic shop one day in downtown Chicago. By work I mean drawings of skaters and some fairly whack graf pieces. Joe was excited and asked if I’d like to draw new project of his. PUNX OF RAGE. Saying yes to that project may have been the reason for everything else to follow in my art career.

Wizard World Chicago was coming up fast and we wanted to get a coming soon poster ready for this new project. Joe was kind enough to ask me to come sit with his crew STRICTLY UNDERGROUND at the show, behind their table. I felt so damn legit.

It was that weekend that CB Cebulski (pre Marvel Globe Trotter) stopped by and saw this Punx of Rage print. For whatever reason, he saw something in it. We got it touch after the show and things started to take off and now I’m been drawing comics at Marvel for 13 years.

Because things started to move so fast, i never did get a chance to actually draw the PUNX OF RAGE project for Joe. But We remained friends to this day and he is still out there hustling and showing his love for this comic thing we all love.

So, my love to Joe Currie and the heart he’s always put into comics. He pulled me into his world and I see him as the start of all of this. Thanks brother!
